about Anne-Cathrine
Anne-Cathrine Riebnitzsky was born in 1974 in Svendborg and grew up in southern Funen. She has written several acclaimed novels but began her career with the biography Kvindernes krig (The Women’s War), about her work with oppressed women in Afghanistan. The book was published in 2010 and was nominated for several awards.
In 2012, her debut novel Den stjålne vej (The Stolen Road) was released and received the BogForum Debutant Prize from a unanimous jury. The novel also placed second in DR’s Novel Prize competition. Den stjålne vej is set in Afghanistan and remains a favorite among many readers.
Her major breakthrough came with the novel Forbandede Yngel (Accursed Brood), published in 2013, which first won Politiken’s novel competition and later received the prestigious Golden Laurel Award from Danish booksellers. Forbandede Yngel is a semi-autobiographical novel about growing up in the shadow of psychological and physical violence. It resonated deeply with a wide Danish audience and has been translated into Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, French, and many other languages. It is one of those novels after which, at every talk, there are often one or more audience members left in tears because they have just seen their own life story reflected in it.
After an intense lecture tour and a great deal of hard work, Riebnitzsky’s third novel, Orkansæsonen og stilheden (The Hurricane Season and the Silence), was published in early 2016. It became her most highly acclaimed novel to date, winning her many younger readers as well as a new and larger male audience.
In 2018 came Smaragdsliberen (The Emerald Cutter) – a story about unbreakable friendships across religious divides, about love and sudden downfall. A novel about choosing life.
Hunting has been an important part of Riebnitzsky’s life since 2013, and in the autumn of 2019 she published Med bue og pil – jagthistorier (With Bow and Arrow – Hunting Stories), a collection of tales about this kind of hunting, which demands closeness, silence, and patience.
Tro i hverdagen (Faith in Everyday Life) was published in 2020, in which Riebnitzsky openly describes her unconventional path to faith and its practical significance in daily life.
With Vindens port (The Gate of the Wind) from 2021, Riebnitzsky takes readers to the fate of a Muslim fortress in 14th-century Andalusia in a sweeping and gripping historical novel about power struggles, religious wars, and love.
In 2024, Riebnitzsky published Tempel (Temple), the first novel in her trilogy about the time surrounding the life of Jesus. The book received excellent reviews, and the following year Ørn (Eagle) was released, which likewise earned high praise.
In addition to receiving the Debutant Prize and the Golden Laurel, Anne-Cathrine Riebnitzsky has been nominated three times for the Weekendavisen Literary Award. She is a popular public speaker and a sought-after guest at international literary festivals.
Privately, she is married to Colonel and Chamberlain Mads Rahbek, the head of the Royal Life Guards. As a chamberlain’s wife, she gladly participates in state dinners and other representative events and duties – as far as her schedule allows.

I 2018 udkom romanen Smaragdsliberen. En fortælling om ubrydelige venskaber på tværs af religiøse overbevisninger, om kærlighed og bratte fald: En roman om at vælge livet til.
